Lately, every time I turn on Saturday night Lifetime movies or watch re-runs of Dog the Bounty Hunter (no shame for either), I’m bombarded with previews for LMN and A&E’s O.J. Simpson specials – The Secret Tapes of the O.J. Case: The Untold Story and O.J. Speaks: The Hidden Tapes, respectively. And now, finally, the first one airs tonight on LMN. I was young when everything was going on in that case – but, even still, I remember my parents watching it on television…and I’m pretty sure everyone else in the country was, too. I’ll be tuning in tonight and tomorrow, so I decided to mix up a clementine and pomegranate cocktail to settle in and watch.
I fully intended to make an orange juice cocktail, but when I saw the fresh clementine juice in the market, I couldn’t pass it up – at least it’s from the orange family, right? But, if you can’t find clementine juice, this works equally as well with plain orange juice – just be sure to get the pomegranates.
Early next year, American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson will be airing on FX, which, quite frankly, is probably the reason that my interest has been piqued in these two specials. I love American Horror Story (except for maybe that last season?), so I’m hoping this new anthology will live up to the hype. I’ll be sure to mix up a drink or two for that premiere night, but until then I’ll be perfectly happy with this cocktail in my hand as I’m watching the documentaries about the case tonight and tomorrow.
- 2 oz clementine or orange juice
- 1 oz rum
- 1/2 oz limoncello
- Splash of pomegranate juice
- Pomegranate seeds, for garnish
- In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, pour in the clementine juice, rum, and limoncello. Shake well. Fill a tall glass with ice and pour in a splash of pomegranate juice. Strain the cocktail in the glass and garnish with pomegranate seeds.
