I’ve never been a big caffeine drinker – I rarely drink coffee and never drinks sodas. I usually start off my day with a big glass of ice water, and drink at least 6-7 glasses throughout the day, but some days I just crave something fruity. When those cravings hit, I always go to lemonade (one of my favorite recipes is here minus the gin if it’s during the day!). Since blood oranges are plentiful right now and it’s beginning to warm up outside, blood orange lemonade seemed like the obvious choice.
Has this week been dragging for anyone else? I don’t know if it’s because we lost an hour or what, but this week has felt like the slowest week ever and it’s only Wednesday. I’m anxiously counting down to the weekend, because I already have a list of things I’d like to get done. Even though I just moved into my apartment, I want to do a little light spring cleaning so I’ll be taking advantage of the rain that’s coming on Saturday to stay inside and work on putting the last finishing touches on my place. And if it looks like I won’t be going anywhere, I may put on my favorite podcast of the moment and stir a little rum into this lemonade while I’m cleaning/sprucing up.
- 1 cup blood orange juice
- 1 cup lemon juice
- 1/4 cup orange juice (I used tangerines that were on sale)
- 3/4-1 cup simple syrup
- 3 cups water
- Blood orange slices, for garnish
- In a large pitcher, combine the blood orange juice, lemon juice, orange juice, half of the simple syrup and water. Add more simple syrup for desired sweetness. Place in blood orange slices and cover and place in the fridge for at least an hour before serving.
